Expert Antique Furniture Restoration Workshop | Woodnesborough, Kent
Traditional craftsmanship. Nationwide delivery. Since 2004.
At Foxborough Furniture, we believe in the longevity of well-made wood. Our family-run workshop is led by Steven Marfurt, who brings over 40 years of hands-on experience to every project. Working alongside his son, Michael Marfurt, the duo ensures that every piece, whether a 19th-century heirloom or a 20th-century design icon, is handled with care and respect for its history.
Specialising in Traditional & Modern Restoration
While our foundation is built on restoring Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian antiques, we don't stop at the 19th century. We handle all types of furniture restoration, including modern pieces that have lost their luster.
We have a particular passion for Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern furniture. These eras require a specific understanding of finishes; we know when to apply the high-gloss depth of a traditional French Polish and when to use the sympathetic, matte finishes required for 1960s teak or walnut. Our services include:
Traditional French Polishing: We use authentic shellac and hand-rubbed techniques for a period-correct finish.
Structural & Veneer Repairs: Fixing loose joints, repairing chips, and relaying lifted veneers.
Modern Refinishing: Removing scratches and water marks from contemporary tables and cabinets.
Sympathetic Restoration: We aim to preserve as much of the original character as possible while making the piece functional again.
Our Restoration Process & Philosophy
We believe in a "sympathetic" approach to restoration. This means we aim to preserve the original patina and history of a piece rather than making it look brand new and characterless.
Every project begins with a careful assessment of the wood and the existing finish. We don't believe in shortcuts; we use time-honored techniques to ensure the structural integrity and the aesthetic beauty of your furniture are restored to the highest standard. This meticulous attention to detail is why many of our clients come to us via word-of-mouth recommendations throughout Kent.
Serving the Kent Community
Our workshop is based in Woodnesborough, but our client base covers the whole of East Kent. We cover a 30-mile radius from our base and are happy to offer a collection and delivery service.
For smaller items, we can often collect them ourselves. For larger furniture—like wardrobes or heavy dining sets—we can arrange reliable transport to get the items to the workshop safely. We regularly work with clients in:
Sandwich, Ash, and Deal
Canterbury and Barham
Ramsgate, Margate, and Broadstairs
St Margarets, Folkestone, and Hawkinge
Nationwide Delivery & Online Sales
Beyond our local restoration work, we also sell restored pieces online. To support this, we work with professional furniture couriers who provide nationwide delivery.
This service also extends to our restoration clients. If you live outside our 30-mile local radius but would like the Marfurt family to handle your restoration, we can easily arrange for your furniture to be collected and returned via our courier network, no matter where you are in the UK.
